Check of serviceability of functioning of the fuel pump, measurement of pressure of fuel
General checks
|
1. Make sure available of a gasoline tank of enough fuel. 2. Be convinced that the fuel pump really works. Ask the assistant to include ignition, having turned a key in the situation ON, - in a gasoline tank the characteristic sound of the working pump has to be heard (the pump has to work about two seconds).

The sound of the working pump is well audible through an open mouth of a fuel tank. If the pump does not turn on, pass at once to check of its electric chain. |

Verification of the pressure head characteristic of the fuel pump
|
1. Remove a damper of pulsations of fuel (see the Section Dropping Pressure in a power supply system) and screw on its place a transitional nozzle for connection of the manometer.
2. Without starting the engine, include ignition. Track that To/in it was switched off. The fuel pump will turn on on couple of seconds, - pressure in a power supply system has to rise (check the indication of the manometer) and to be stabilized.

3. Start the engine and warm up it on single turns up to the normal working temperature. Compare the indication of the manometer to requirements of Specifications. Now disconnect a vacuum hose from the fuel pressure regulator, - the indication of the manometer has to rise immediately, besides to the value stipulated in Specifications. |
|
4. If at a detachment of a vacuum hose pressure does not increase, by means of the manual vacuum pump create depression of 305 ÷ 355 mm of mercury in depth in the regulator. If now pressure falls, check serviceability of functioning of a source of depression, otherwise replace the regulator. |
|
5. If results of measurement of pressure exceed the limit of admissible range, execute the following checks:
a) If pressure is excessively high, check serviceability of giving for the depression regulator. Depth of depression has to fluctuate with change of turns of the engine. If depression is present, check a state and passability of a hose/tube of return of fuel. If the returnable line as it should be, replace the regulator. b) With excessively small pressure replace the fuel filter, having excluded probability of violation of its passability (the filter is built in assembly of the gasoline pump/sensor of fuel consumption and it is taken together with the last, - see the Section Removal and installation of the fuel pump). If replacement of the filter does not help to correct a situation, install the locking gate on a site between the regulator and the returnable fuel line (instead of the gate it is possible to establish a piece of a flexible hose which can be easily pressed by nippers or a clamp). Start the engine and start blocking slowly the gate / to press a hose. If pressure rises above value of 3.3 kgfs/cm 2, replace the regulator (see the Section Removal and installation of the regulator of pressure of fuel). Attention: Do not allow rise in pressure above value of 4.2 kgfs/cm 2. Do not press actually returnable fuel line in order to avoid risk of its damage. c) If pressure remains excessively low even at the blocked returnable line, check for existence of leaks an injection injector(s) (see the Section Removal and installation of the fuel highway and injectors of fuel). Also check serviceability of the fuel pump. |
6. Having finished check, dump pressure (see the Section Dropping Pressure in a power supply system) and disconnect the manometer. |

Check of an electric chain of the fuel pump
|
1. If the fuel pump at inclusion of ignition does not function (from a gasoline tank characteristic sounds are not audible), check a condition of a safety lock of the fuel pump (No. 1), or ACG S safety lock (both on 15 A) in the assembly block located in a motive compartment. In case of need replace the beaten-out safety lock and repeat check. If after replacement of a safety lock the pump starts working, check an electrical wiring of its chain for existence of signs of short circuit on a site between the PGM-FI relay and the pump.

The models considered in the present manual are equipped with the special contour of permission of start of the engine which is carrying out giving of food on the plug No. 2 of the main relay only at the squeezed-out coupling (RKPP) / the AT selector lever installed in situation "P". Protection of this contour against overloads is provided by a special safety lock on 7.5 A, - check a condition of a safety lock No. 13 in the assembly block in a motive compartment of the car. |

2. If replacement of safety locks does not lead to restoration of functioning of the pump, check a condition of an electric chain of the main relay.
|
The main relay is fixed on the arm established under the car dashboard to the left of a steering column. Ask the assistant to include-switch off several times ignition and check serviceability of giving of tension of the battery for the relay socket (see an accompanying illustration). |

3. At the switched-off ignition tension has to take place on the socket plug 7. On the plug 5 tension has to be present only at the included ignition (do not start the engine) whereas the plug 2 has to be powered only at the squeezed-out coupling pedal (model with RKPP) / the selector lever transferred to situation "P". 4. If tension is absent, check a condition of a chain on a site between the relay and RSM, otherwise make sure of serviceability actually of the relay.

5. A wire crossing point connect the positive plug of the battery to the plug 2, ground the plug 1. By means of an ohmmeter make sure available conductivity between plugs 4 and 5. If conductivity is absent, replace the relay. |
6. Now give power supply from the battery on the plug of 5 relays, ground the plug 3. Now conductivity has to take place between plugs 6 and 7, otherwise replace the relay. 7. If conductivity takes place, give food on the plug 6, ground the plug 1 and check conductivity between plugs 4 and 5. In the absence of conductivity replace the relay, otherwise check a condition of a chain on sites between a safety lock, the relay and the pump. 8. If during the check described above it is not possible to establish a pump cause of failure, make sure of serviceability of giving of food on assembly of the fuel pump in a gasoline tank. If tension moves regularly, replace assembly of the pump/sensor of fuel consumption (see the Section Removal and installation of the fuel pump). |
