Removal of a cranked shaft

Removal of a cranked shaft possibly only from the engine taken from the car. It is meant that a flywheel / the driving disk, a gas-distributing belt, the case pallet, a maslozabornik, the oil pump and shatunno-piston assemblies are already dismantled. On 4-cylinder engines dismantle of the connecting bridge has to be made before removal of rods (see the Section Removal of Shatunno-piston Assemblies). Before removal of a cranked shaft it is also necessary to otboltit and separate from the block of cylinders the holder of a back epiploon.


1. Before starting extraction of a cranked shaft from the engine, measure the size of its axial side play. Fix the DTI measuring instrument on the block to coaxially cranked shaft, having rested its plunger against a cheek of one of cranks.

Covers of radical bearings and their connecting bridge (4-cylinder engines) have to remain on the places, and their fixture will tighten with the demanded effort.

2. Push a cranked shaft against the stop back and nullify the device indicator. Now push a shaft in an opposite direction and consider the indication of the measuring instrument. The size of a free wheeling of a shaft in the longitudinal direction is also its axial side play. Compare result of measurement to requirements of Specifications. If the side play exceeds the maximum admissible value, check persistent surfaces of a shaft for existence of signs of excessive wear. In the absence of obvious signs of wear, installation of new persistent washers usually helps to correct a situation.

3. In the absence of near at hand dial measuring instrument it is possible to use the ordinary probe of lezviyny type. Accurately shift a shaft against the stop forward on the engine, then determine the size of the formed gap between a cheek of a crank and a back wall of the persistent (forward) radical bearing, having densely put in it the corresponding thickness a probe edge(s).

4. Check covers of radical bearings for existence on them adjusting marking. Covers have to be numbered consistently in the direction in front back on the engine. In case of need put marking independently by means of a center punch. Besides serial number on covers marking in the form of cast arrows is usually provided. On correctly established covers of the shooter has to specify in the direction of a GRM drive belt.

5. On 4-cylinder engines in stages (on 1/4 turns for approach) weaken bolts of fastening of covers of radical bearings of the connecting bridge so that there was a possibility of their reversing manually. Remove the bridge. A hammer with soft brisk carefully tap covers of bearings and separate them from the block, in case of need use bolts as levers. Try not to drop inserts of radical bearings.

6. On V6 engines the cover of each of radical bearings fastens four bolts, - two bolts are rolled in the vertical plane (looking at the block from below) and two more are screwed from each of the parties in the horizontal plane. Before making attempts of separation of covers from the block, make sure that all bolts are turned out.

7. Carefully take a cranked shaft from the engine (use the help of the assistant). Track that inserts of radical bearings remained in the beds in the block and covers. Establish covers on the block, then by hand tighten bolts of their fastening.
